These region codes are Digital Rights Management (DRM) techniques which permits the studios to control a film release across different regions. Since this data is region specific the disk would only be read or played in a player which was manufactured in that specific region. Your player will read this region code and in case it is not compatible with your local region code then the disk isn’t going to play. The region codes can be defined as pieces of data which are embedded in the DVD or BR disk as a form of restriction.
